Fox Finds Director for "Garfield 2"
by Scott Weinberg | April 08, 2005
Discuss Article
Variety shares some sequel news that should come as little surprise: filmmaker Tim Hill ("Muppets from Space," "Max Keeble's Big Move"Wink has been hired to direct the just-announced sequel to last summer's "Garfield." The comic strip feline's first cinematic adventure grossed just under $200 million worldwide. No word yet on if Breckin Meyer, Jennifer Love Hewitt, or Bill Murray will be reprising their roles from Part 1.

The first one was virtually unwatchable.
Unfortunately, Americans, which I'm ashamed to say includes me, have shelled out over $80 million (Box Office and Video) on Garfield the Movie, so it's really not a shock to hear a follow-up is in the works.

Clarification of Shame
I'm not ashamed to be an American. I'm just very ashamed to be one of the Americans that spent money on this piece of crap, which makes me partially responsible for there being a potential Garfield 2.

Forgive Me!

Otherwise, I am not seeing this or renting this or watching it on TV for free.

These guys just don't know when to give up. I mean, really. Don't they have hearts? More importantly, don't they have brains?

Hopefully, it'll go direct to video, like Inspector Gadget II.

I liked the first. Jon, Liz, Nermal, and every single human was done terribly, but Garfield and Odie were great. I sincerely hope they make Jon nerdier this time around.

Not quite everyone, actually
I think the 'everyone' part of 'everyone loves sequels' may be an overstatement. I don't like them. Especially if the original was rubbish.

Ive only seen bits and pieces of the first one ,i probably would have never seen any of it if it wasnt for my little boy,he seems to like it .Im sure that millions of other little kids have enjoyed it also and for that reason i can understand them making a sequal. At this point in my life it doesnt really concern me what animated film they make next ,or what sequal is spawned. These movies are made for kids, so take them for what they are.

yea. I i thought it used to be that movie makers keep on making sequels to the same movie until one of them sucks. But no, I was wrong; now even for the flops, sequels are coming out!

I was just joking. I hate most sequels. Including this one. I don't care if they haven't even made it yet.

Don't worry about it FOX, feel free to have my favorite childhood comic memories stripped and bled slowly to death, please feel free to make an extraordinarly crap movie with crap cgi and crap acting, screw it why not make two, if you going to kill something make sure it is completly dead. Who said death needed dignity!
