The New Dark Knight Trailer Is Here!

While you were busy catching multiple showings of Iron Man over the weekend, the second full-length trailer for The Dark Knight made its long-awaited official debut.

The trailer -- now available at WhySoSerious -- had already surfaced online in bootleg form, but those versions disappeared almost as soon as they were posted, and anyway, who needs to bother with bootlegs when you've got the real thing just a click away?

Not as heavy on the bang-up action of the first trailer, this clip lays some of the groundwork for the real meat of The Dark Knight's story, giving more screen time to Aaron Eckhart's crusading district attorney Harvey Dent (while still giving Heath Ledger plenty of room to shine). The new trailer is amazing. There are a lot of images in it that we already saw in trailer 2, but a bunch of new stuff too. Ledger's Joker is becoming more amazing every minute!! I wonder what size Two-Face's role is going to be in this one...

Has Eckhart signed on for the third part?

The word is that you can see The Scarecrow driving the white van that batman lands on. I of course paused it at the exact moment, and i don't know... looks like there's a head in the driver's seat, but whether or not that's the scarecrow i'm not sure...

This new trailer is really showing the acting chops of Heath Ledger, but, I still fwelt like he was slightly more sinister in the original trailer. Don't ask me why, but he just seemed more "normal" if that sounds weird enough. However, the movie does look even better now. But, after seeing Iron Man, this movie has to prove to be a worthy adversary because Iron Man completely exceeded my expectations.

I'm trying to figure if I'm just trying to play devil's advocate, or if I really am just not that impressed with the trailers for this movie. I haven't seen one yet that really makes my head spin. So, I showed it to my wife who is in love with Batman Begins, and she thought the same thing: looks solid, but not fantastic. Here's hoping they saved the best for the movie. I enjoyed Batman Begins and Iron Man so much, this movie has a lot to live up to in my mind.

I think Merlin235 hits it right on the head. This movie has so much more to live up to then Batman Begins did. It's going to have to be simply spectatcular to live up to the hype that it's generating, and odds are that it won't. It will probably be solid, but many will be disappointed I'm betting. We'll see. I'm pretty sure that I'm going to enjoy it, but I'm not wetting my pants over it either.

My only gripe so far is Ledger's Joker laugh is underwhelming. I really wish it was different somehow. I don't need the great over-the-top Mark Hamill laugh, but just something that makes me think insane. From the trailers I've seen, the laugh isn't cutting it. I like the dark Joker look, but as far as the laugh, we're talking Joker here!

Love the scene where you see Dent laying with half his face in a puddle of gasoline. Probably a finale shot but who cares? Very cool.

I actually hated Begins in the theater (too tightly shot and hard for my eyes to follow) but love it on the small screen. Now, with the new suit, I'm hoping Nolan can pull back and really let us see Batman fight. Also, I'm praying we finally see a bit of the detective (even though, storyline-wise, he's still a "knight" instead of a detective at this point). Should be interesting.

Just don't kill the Joker like Burton did. Get a guy to replace Ledger or write him out of the third movie. PLEASE!

I tend to agree that it will be exceptionally difficult for this movie to live up to the hype, but here's why I think that's a good thing-- go into the movie expecting to be disappointed, that way if the movie is as good as we all hope it is, it WILL blow your mind the way you want it to.

If you watch closely, the shot where Aaron Eckhart has the gun in his hand you can tell that the left side of his face has already been burned by the acid. Pause it and you can make it out.

cool trailer, better than the first one. and let's be honest, 'batman begins' was one of the better comic movies, but it had its share of malfunctions.

the villains were lackluster, the casting of katie holmes was criminal and stupid crap like pushing a button on your shoe and having bats fly in isn't going to cut the mustard in part 2. what i'm saying is that, as a sequal, 'dark knight' will easily outshine its predecessor simply by righting those previous wrongs.

as far as comparing to 'iron man,' don't be shocked if it doesn't do the same unbelievable business, especially week one. 'dark knight' doesn't have "batman" in the title, and instant name recognition really does go a long way with a superhero franchise.

the movie looks colder, harsher, not full-color-spectrum pop eye candy like 'iron man.' dark knight's advertising itself a darker, more serious movie, and that lends itself to the character, who is a brooding bruce wayne, versus tony stark's wise-cracking playboy. parents have an easier time bringing their kid to a colorful 'iron man' movie (from the director of 'elf' no less) than they will a "hard pg-13" like 'dark knight' will likely be.

so, we're really talking about two different kinds of superhero movie. the genre's expanded enough to garner sub-genres. on one side are flicks like 'iron man' 'spider-man' which are bright and clean and tailored to mass appeal, and then there are the new batman movies, and apparently the new 'wolverine' spin-off, which forgo the pop aesthetic (and the increased accessibility that it brings) in favor of better serving the characters.

For those saying that the trailer for Dark Knight does not overwhelm you, remember that the trailers for Batman Begins didn't prepare you for watching probably the greatest superhero origin story ever! So keep an open mind when you're seeing the movie. I'm sure there's lots of stuff they're saving for the movie.

And yeah, that totally sucks that even if Dark Knight gets rave reviews, it probably won't do the business Iron Man is doing. One of my friends brought his 5 & 9 year old kids to Iron Man, and even during that movie, they were getting fidgety! Dark Knight is not exactly the movie to bring your kids over and over.

Thanks for letting me know about the potential 2 face shot in the trailer! I slowed it down, and you can see remnants of a scar. CAN'T WAIT!!!!!

dahluzz, no offense, but you're probably wrong on about everything you said. If nothing else, Heath's death alone will bring giant box office numbers, including people who haven't even seen Begins. Iron Man did phenomenal at the box office this weekend, but keep in mind all the movies that beat it in the past were sequels. As for your "the dark knight doesn't have batman in the title" argument, what about the bat symbol behind the title? I think people will figure it out.

oh, and by the way, the stupid pushing of the button on your shoes from Begins...that's straight out of Year One, by Frank Miller. If you didn't like that, good luck..because Nolan and company borrowed a LOT from it and The Long Halloween. and i'm pretty sure the lackluster villains were part of a genius plan to actually let us see some character development for the hero, which I'm fine with after a handful of batman movies in the 90s ONLY focusing on the villains.

Batman calling the bats with the thing in his boot and jumping down the stairwell was one of the most memorable movie scenes i have ever seen. It was the first time we got to see that his cape was for more than just looks. I don't see how that was a disappointment. Katie Holmes definitely stunk, but you have to like that Begins was about Bruce Wayne fighting crime and didn't waste time with a love story like Spiderman or Superman. Go watch a chick flick if you want that stuff. I don't see why comic book movies get all lovey dovey.

The trailer looks outstanding, especially when he jumps the tumbler over a car to avoid a rocket. That was sweet. There is just no way to relax or contain excitement for this movie. Nolan has never put out a bad movie and he always has tricks up his sleeve so i'm not predicting any kind of disappointment for this film. Except that it will be too short no matter how long it is.

"Lackluster" villains as you said is almost a compliment. I didn't think that myself, but they clearly were meant to be understated because Begins was meant to be the first Batman movie that is about Bruce Wayne. In the best hero stories, the villain is meant to reveal the hero's character both by showing the differences and the similarities between the two. See Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, etc.

This new trailer is astounding. I do worry that I've built the movie up too much in my head, but every time I go to see a Nolan movie I try to prepare myself for disappointment...yet I'm always blown away.

It also shows Nolan's understanding of the Two-Face character: that he represents a reminder for Bruce of what he is always so close to becoming.

Holy crap, this trailer was AMAZING!!! I loved the one, small, teeny clip with Dent having the gun to his head...and you can see that the one side of his face is scared. This movie looks as though Nolan has really done an amazing job with the comics. Heath Ledger's interpretation of the Joker looks brilliant, definitely took the greatest bits from The Killing Joke. And Nolan seems to have taken a very big amount from A Long Halloween, and those comics are some of the defining Batman comics. I don't know, I'm going to go insane waiting for this movie!!
