Calls Singer "an absolute genius."

If and when Warner Bros. gets around to making a sequel to Superman Returns, Kevin Spacey will be happy to return as Lex Luthor.

Out promoting 21, the fictionalized account of the MIT Blackjack Team's early '90s Vegas exploits he's currently starring in, Spacey was asked by Monsters and Critics about his interest in another go-round as the shiny-pated villain, and replied:

I believe they're in talks at the moment. I've actually already signed up to do it, so if they decide to go ahead with it and they still want me, then I will definitely be in it.

A Superman Returns sequel has been the subject of intense speculation for months, and now that a federal judge has ruled that Time Warner must share the Superman copyright with the heirs of the character's co-creator, Jerry Siegel, that speculation seems likely to continue indefinitely. Spacey didn't get into any of that -- but he did show Returns director Bryan Singer some love, saying:

One of the reasons I signed up to do it was because I wanted to work with Bryan Singer again, who I worked with on 'The Usual Suspects' in 1995, because I think he is an absolute genius.

the movie Luthor would be a better character if he was updated. in the comics, he's a billionaire businessman who hides his devious affairs behind his public profile of businessman/philanthropist. he's no longer the scheming mad scientist he was in the early years. if they can make Spacey's Luthor the businessman Luthor and make his character an underlying threat rather than the main villain again, then his character would be much more interesting and less gimmicky.

LOL @ child support comment. Spacey did about as good as could be done with Lex Luthor...not really to much to the character. "Act mean, have some quipps, pretty much be hellbent on killing Supes...."

There can only be one Gene Hackman anyway.

But bring Spacey back....have him interact with Darkseid or something. :)

spacey did a fine job but the role sucks. nobody believes an old guy is gonna have a chance against a SUPERman. thats like trying to say Andy Griffith could fight Kimbo and actually have a chance. its not at all believeable. ntil they bring in an ACTUAL supervillian(Darkseid seems to be the most wanted choice) this series will continue to be somewhat...well, boring. its a shame because the first one wasn't THAT bad but...it won't get any better until they realize that flaw

yes I too am a believer in Superman Returns and look forward to a sequel with eager anticipation. I actually didn't like John Byrne's rebooted Lex from the 80's. I feel like Byrne was trying too hard to make Lex into a Marvel character by making him above the law as a wealthy corporate exec (you know like all corporate execs are), so he will have this "moral ambiguity" to him now." I mean besides the old Lex is this worn out old stereotype of an evil mad scientist, thats so outdated and un- modern ." Yeah tell that to Hitler and Osama Bin Lauden. Why do you think the comics and the Justice League Unlimited TV show made Lexy a regular "mad scientist" again. Because cold hard evil no matter how hard we try to psychologize it unfortunately never goes out of fashion. (Yes I know my spelling stinks.)

I agree, Superman Returns was a great way to bring back the Superman franchise. It sucks because in this day in age, most people want dark demented characters, including the superheroes. Well, sorry to say, but Superman was a nice guy....until he met Doomsday! LOL

Maybe this is because Supes now sees that evil is not something that is just a product of someone's up bringing or their enviroment, but that many people (or Creatures in Doomsday's case) are just bad. And maybe Supes even sees that in the blink of an eye he or any of us not only have the potential to do evil things, but that could be evil as well.

I think the kid angle was great and bad at the same time. It adds a deep element when thought out. Like the fact that Lois is now his Baby's Mama rather than his wife. And She has been tricking another man in to believing he's the daddy when he is not. And Super does owe child support but lois doesn't know his real name (Clark Kent) and I doubt Superman has a P.O. box so they wouldn't know where to send the papers to get support from him. And who gets custody? Normally the mom but how would a human mom discipline a super child. A belt ain't gonna do it. Super would be better equiped to reaise a super kid but he is always dashing off. This would deffinitely make the father/son picnic interesting.

On a side not I would love to see them do the Death and Return of Superman story line.

People may be taking back all that "Singer is a genius" stuff when his new movie with Tom Cruise comes out. Word is it is a total hack job, worth of some serious mocking. But that's just the word from a couple critics so far, who knows.
Spacey was fine as Lex, but the character was limited by the screenplay. He'd be good to bring back, but I agree with whoever said to make him a more businessman, behind the scenes threat type of guy.

It may be true that only a comic geek believes that a smart evil guy can beat a physically powerful guy. It's important to remember, though, that not everyone roots for the 'good' guy.

Do you like Batman as well? You must know that there are close to zero instances of Superman ever 'beating' Batman at anything, in any media they have appeared in. Superman has been outwitted and physically humiliated many times by Batman. Do you think that's silly or impossible also? It's completely plausible because Superman will not do anything that's possible to win, and all of his enemies know this. He will face every problem forehead first.
