In an awe-inspiring fusion of dream/reality, this off-beat drama about man's search for meaning amidst the ache of despair chronicles Finn (David Strathairn), a middle-aged English teacher, as he enters a mid-life crisis impelled by a recent tragedy.

As he sets afoot selling encyclopedias to the town locals, Finn's anxieties begin to consume him as he finds himself pursued by an unrelenting ghost. Circling through sleepless nights and desperate days, The Sensation of Sight intertwines lives of loneliness and disconnection, fatefully leading Finn toward an unexpected and sublime awakening. --© Official Site

[I]t's a terrible pity that this ensemble drama about people hurting and coping in small-town America is so relentlessly dull...

It’s moving, occasionally charming, and universally well-acted...But with its pretensions to profundity...the film, like its hero, can get stuck inside its own head.

The really oppressive thing here is the filmmaking itself.

David Strathairn's Finn is the nearly broken, perplexed, downcast, and also oddly humorous Chaplinesque figure, whose own transformative experienced 'sensation of sight' imparts a tentative metaphorical healing vision of a restored life.

The impression that remains after the credits roll, however, is of exemplary American filmmaking, whose direction and superb performances make up for a solemn script.
