Joe (Gyllenhaal) is grieving over the death of his fiancee, Diana, and is living with her parents, Ben (Hoffman) and JoJo (Sarandon). Though Joe just wants to do what's right, he openly admits that he has no plan, no answers, and needs time to sort things out. Meanwhile, Ben and JoJo cling to him as their only hope after losing their daughter, and the rest of the world expects him to bounce back into dating without a moment's pause. Joe's awkwardness and unquenchable efforts to be helpful provide for some touching and softly comedic moments. The New England setting of the film, the '60s cars and clothes, and the excellent soundtrack (Sly & The Family Stone, T-Rex, Bob Dylan) provide enough atmosphere to move this emotional story right along. But it isn't until Joe meets another woman (Ellen Pompeo), who also lost someone she loved, that he regains hope and begins to be true to himself and to the people around him. [More]

Reviews for Moonlight Mile
At the very least an emotionally honest film, but it would have been far more affecting if it felt more true to life.
Starring the likes of Susan Sarandon and Dustin Hoffman, filmmaker Brad Silberling delivers a personal movie that reassures us that that we will one day understand those terrible things that happen to us.
I appreciate what the film has to say about honesty and moving on with life. But ... the film's ultimate 'insights' about going on with life seem hollow and insufficient.
Excessivamente ansioso para provocar as lágrimas do espectador, o roteiro torna-se superficial e maniqueísta, transformando o sofrimento de seus personagens em verdadeira tortura para o público.
Has an emotional resonance above what we've come to expect/dread from big name Hollywood movies.
There's no hint of giant bunnies or falling airline engines; just good solid family drama. .
“…life isn’t black and white, and often the funniest moments arise at the most tragic times. It’s funny, sad, unpredictable and richly rewarding, this unusual love story set in a small town that shows us that dreams aren’t really dreams, unless they are w
