A fully realized concept album which addressed societal ills and social issues, the record raised awareness and inspired action. On September 5th and 7th, 2001, an acclaimed group of musical talents from all over the generic map--including Bono, Mary J. Blige, Perry Farrell, Queen Latifah, Wyclef Jean, and Michael Stipe--met in New York City to record an updated version of the album, proceeds of which were mean to go to the battle against the rampant AIDS epidemic in Africa. However, when less than a week later, the tragic terrorists attacks levelled downtown New York and shocked America, the artists decided to split the proceeds 50/50 between their original cause and the United Way's September 11th Fund.
