Jolie Ready for Another Trip to the "Tomb"?
by Scott Weinberg | April 24, 2006
Discuss Article
IGN FilmForce brings us some maybe-news from semi-reliable sources: Seems that Ms. Angelina Jolie may be grabbing hold of her pistols once again -- and stepping into "Tomb Raider 3" -- but only after she's had Brad Pitt's baby, loses a little weight, and comes back from Africa.

""Paramount has optioned [Tomb Raider III] and Angelina has agreed to star in the third," Ian Livingstone — fantasy author, Eidos co-founder, and creator of Lara Croft — told the paper. Eidos Interactive, now owned by SCi, created the wildly popular computer and console game series based on the adventures of archaeologist Lara Croft. The franchise continues to be popular with the release of the company's latest game, 'Tomb Raider: Legend.'"

does anyone remember when she said she wouldn't do Tomb Raider 2? I thought she hated her experience in the first movie.

AFAIK she never denied a second one, but said she wouldn't be intersted in a third.

Well, the movies are rather stupid but actually pretty fun to watch, mostly due to Jolie, so I certainly wouldn't mind a third installment. After the last one flopped, I guess a new sequel could be rather successful with all that crazy Brangelina hype going on.

I like the first one, mainly because Jolie seemed like she had fun in the film. The second one seemed so serious - the tone was just wrong. Not surprisingly, it tanked.

I guess with the new hype surrounding Jolie, a new one could work. Scary Movie 2 didn't do that well either (compared to the first), but 3 and 4 still did spectacular business despite that.

Maybe if they based this one off Tomb Raider: Legend, I'd care. But not too likely.

Yea I'm kinda supprised that they might make a third one after the last one flopped, but Senh Doung makes a good point that mabey it'll do like Scary Movie and the third one will do well. Whatever I guess Jolie plans on being busy when she gets back, making this, Ocean's, and most importantly Sin City 2.

I find it kind of funny that Angelina is such a huge star, and obviously super-hot, but she has never really been a "movie star". She's never really sold a movie, her only modest hits relied on the "Tomb Raider" name or Brad Pitt.

Scary Movie 2 was just vulgar. Glad they kicked the Wayans out of the franchise. And I do hope there isn't another Tomb Raider. Unless they actually get the real Lara Croft model to play the part - Karima Adibebe...now, she's smoking hot!
I say let Jolie stick to Sin City 2 if she wants to get a hit on her hands rather than dabbling in the lacklustre Tomb Raider franchise.

A flop?
Critically yes, it was a flop, but it made almost $72 million in domestic box office sales and rentals. I don't know how much it cost to make, but not every movie grosses $100+ million. I'll rent it just to see the hottest woman on the planet run around in tight clothing.

The second film made about $160m wordwide, while it cost $130m all together ($95m budget plus marketing), therefore Paramout still got almost $30m out of it.
