When she finds an abandoned infant on Eighth Avenue in New York City, however, she feels that she has no choice but to take the kid in. Suddenly her maternal instincts kick in, and she decides to adopt the child. But she encounters opposition when she tries to become the tot's legal guardian. State officials require Elizabeth to marry before they will let the baby live under her roof. In Dr. Corey McBain, she thinks she can arrange an in-name-only marriage that will pass muster with the adoption agency. In addition to her efforts to adopt, Elizabeth learns that the child has a potentially life-threatening ailment, one Dr. McBain just might be able to cure. [More]
