Consensus: Boys and Girls feels like a cheap rip-off of When Harry Met Sally. The predictable and stale story fails to engage.

Ryan (Freddie Prinze, Jr.) is an Industrial Engineering major at the University of California at Berkeley. He and his best friend Jennifer (Claire Forlani) have known each other since they were twelve, although their relationship has always been rocky. As graduation nears, the two begin to realize that they may have been standing beside their perfect partner from the very beginning. An attractive cast, highlighted by the two leads, makes this a movie that audiences will undoubtedly fall in love with. [More]

Reviews for Boys and Girls
The cast is so charming and assured that it puts across most of this with a reasonable amount of conviction.
While its parts are average to good, the sum of those parts is well above average. This film strikes a decent balance, despite its potential for childishness.
It's a paint-by-numbers romantic comedy, but without the heart or laughs to make it work.
If [When Harry Met Sally...]never existed, this would be a passable romance; as it is, it looks more like a cheap ripoff.
It is not that it's implausible; it's just that in this case it's not very interesting, a situation not helped by the most pedestrian dialogue.
This is less a movie than a casting call -- just round up a crowd of pretty young faces, fresh yet still familiar, and call it a job well done.
We can see the plot points lumbering toward us like Godzilla in Death Valley...quips whipping through the air with the greatest of ease and with minimal impact.
Not for a moment could you believe you're watching actual, viable human beings.
There is rarely a single moment of originality or spontaneity to be found ... until the final credits sequence.
[Biggs] is the only thing that salvages this pitiful romantic comedy.
The best thing that can be said about Boys and Girls is that it is studiously inoffensive.
