when i first heard Black talking about this and the premise awhile back...i was pumped. after seeing a few previews...i realized my fears were right on, Jack Black stopped being funny after Saving Silverman. maybe the trailers i saw showed random parts just to tell what the movie is about(half its job) but it didn't really look all that funny(the other half). this looks like a rental until they gimme a trailer that looks like its hilarious. great premise, looks to be bad casting. jim carrey...10 years ago would have made this an absolute classic. or maybe a few years ago...chris kattan/will ferrell duo. i'm just not diggin' on Black anymore, he isn't as funny as he used to be which happens to way too many comedians

He is however still funnier than a chris kattan/will ferrell duo ever. Or for that matter anything shot within 100 miles of anywhere Chris Kattan happened to be at that moment. Bottum line: don't invoke the virtues of Chris Kattan in a cristism of anyone else's comedy.

This is the least funny thing I've seen in a long time. It looks like a Youtube fan clip. A bad one.

Bah, too many people are seeing this is a Jack Black flick instead of a Michel Gondry film. It's not supposed to be slapstick Jack Black machine guys.

I'm definitely looking forward to this, I loved Eternal Sunshine and The Science of Sleep.

Why does everyone think this movie is a comedy? It%u2019s a Gondry film. They%u2019re quirkier and more heartfelt than the stupid laugh-a-minute comedy that some of you apparently want it to be.

That being said, Darklighter, it doesn't look up to snuff for a Gondry film either. It just doesn't look very good.

chris kattan teamed with will ferrell is way funnier than anything Black has done recently. both are supporting guys and them playing in "skits" during a movie would be gold. well, at least in theory...its still all about execution which is why i was HOPING Black would go back to being hilarious as he was in Saving Silverman. Jack just doesn't bring it anymore in terms of laughing your 2ss off comedy. this should have been done by somebody from Snl/Madtv since the scenes are going to be like 5-10 minutes(tops) PER movie they redo. Farley and Spade would have knocked this out of the park, but unfortunately...

and by the way snooty people saying its "not" supposed to be laugh out loud funny, i'm pretty sure its not a dramatic Oscar hopeful with a poster like that. c'mon...

the fact that you are lumping this movie in with snl/madtv skits shows your misunderstanding of the subject matter. black and mos def bring a depth to their characters that spade, farley, kattan, ferrell, do not and are not expected to. condry is not trying to direct an oscar winning drama, but he is not shooting for an snl slapstick like black sheep or night at the roxbury. this much should be obvious. his style is more bitter sweet. think wes anderson, not national lampoons.

It still looks like it could go either way. Just have to wait until more reviews are in. I'm projecting a 60%.

Chris Kattan is an abomination, as is MadTV. This looks quite amusing, although I loathed The Science of Sleep.

gondry pissed me off with 'science of sleep,' which was just him to trying to make a movie about himself as a confused youth... very *****in confused. the main character was a whiny little child with no substance or dignity. it was just michel gondry using all the visual tricks and play toys of eternal sunshine without the kauffman storytelling to give it meaning.

while i thought the 'rewind' preview was excellent, after seeign this clip i can't possibly pay money to watch this in theaters. it looks terrible, the reviews are terrible and his last movie was terrible. conclusion: 'be kind rewind' IS, in fact, terrible.

I actually saw an early cut of the movie several months ago at a pre-screening. The "remade" movies are only about 15-minutes of the film (and, taken in context, were pretty funny). However, the overarching story of the movie isn't particularly good, so I thought it was mediocre at best. I'm hoping Gondry made changes to the final film; but taking a look at the early critics comments leads me to believe that he didn't.
