Writers Hold 24 Movie Hostage
by Fred Topel | January 24, 2007

Okay, it isn't quite as dramatic as the headline suggests but it's "24," so we have to make it sound intense. While Kiefer Sutherland had hoped to shoot a "24" feature film in between the current sixth season and the next one, even he realized the schedule made preparing a solid movie script impossible.

"I don't think we'll be able to get the movie accomplished in the hiatus," said Sutherland. "As excited as I am about making the film and as excited as John Cassar is as a director, it's kind of an unfair task to put the writers on to work as hard as they are on the show and then ask them in their three weeks off a year to come up with this amazing film script."

As anyone who witnessed Kim Bauer's encounter with the mountain lion know, it's best to give the writers time to come up with something good. "I think the responsible choice was made by them to really still focus on the show and we'll do the movie when we're ready to do the movie. As much as I might be ready and as much as John Cassar might be ready, it's the writers who have to do the work."

Michael Douglas giving Sutherland some friendly advice in "The Sentinel."
